Feedback Reflection
My tutor’s feedback for Assignment 2 was encouraging in relation to my process, my work method, and in the way that I have challenged and compared myself to the research that I have undertaken.
One area that did strike me was his comment “I feel that your personal voice is growing but I feel that it would be beneficial if you started to take more risks with your photography”. This was interesting to me as I felt that this assignment was my riskiest of all my study with OCA thus far! On reflection I decided it was a good thing, I had taken what I thought was a risk, pulled off the assignment, and done so successfully enough for the tutor to comment that I should push further.
For me, this is the biggest area of development that I perhaps need to take. My working life is engineering and mathematical based, high precision topics that do not really allow experimentation, although they do still require creativity.
I think for my next assignment, I need to push further in my shot selection, spend more time considering what it is that I want to show in the image and why, but also what can I do in terms of capturing the shot creatively to invoke a mood or a thought process for the viewer.
I don’t think that there is anything in my tutor’s comments that mean I should be changing my set but I did spend more time thinking how I would present the images for display. Perhaps with the images displayed on the wall I would extend the notion of the wires outside of the images, join the images with real barbed wire along the wall, present the images mounted on old wood, essentially create the woodland scene outside of the images from which I found my shot selections initially.
Final shot selection is therefore below.
